Flying geese quilt block tutorial from Pieced Brain

Flying geese quilt block tutorial

Here’s an easy flying geese quilt block tutorial that will save you time and fabric! Learn when to choose this one over the traditional method.

Last night I was testing this block for a quilt pattern I needed to write. It finishes at 12″ but the main reason to test it was because the size of the flying-geese units was not conventional, i.e., 2″ x 4″, 3″ x 6″, etc. Thus, I could not use the traditional method to construct them, as they measured 2-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ finished.

I do use EQ8, the software by the ...

House Temperature Block Tutorial from Life in the Scrapatch

Here is today's Temperature House Quilt block.

I am calling this one the "Polar Vortex Block."

The low was 7 degrees F with a wind chill factor that felt -13F/-25C

The high was only 14F, with chill of -2F/-16

Normally, I chose the colors that represent the actual temperatures of the day

but we are in such an extreme weather grip, I chose the colors to include the wind chill factor.

The light lavender "door" indicates the wind chill.

I was very windy and gusty today ... Brrrrr!

This is the frost on one of my east side ...

Half Square Triangle Scraps – Using every bit from Brown Bird Designs Quilts

Use every bit of your fabric. This tutorial used the scraps from diagonal cuts.

Have you ever set aside half square triangle scraps with the intent to use them but can’t figure out what to do with them? What do you do with your project scraps? I always feel so good when I save them. They are perfect to use in charity blocks or a scrappie project. As I was working on two of the three Double Pinwheel Quilts I made, I did a little prep work and laid the foundation for a few hundred half square triangles all from scraps. They have been waiting patiently for me in a basket on top ...

Quilts with stars and over 50 one-block quilt patterns from Pieced Brain

Quilts with stars and over 50 one-block quilt patterns

I love quilts with stars, whether they are pieced, paper pieced, or appliqued. I have made them entirely with stars, such as this Christmas quilt, or mixed with alternating blocks. Here is my latest star quilt block, which is going into a sampler quilt.

Two of my friends and I are making star quilt blocks which will be later turned into a quilt. We were supposed to meet every month and exchange blocks, but life is getting in the way. I did make another block, though, and I think it came out so cool!

I was looking for 12-inch star ...

~ Hunkering Down Quilt Block PDF Tutorial ~ from Podunk Pretties

Over the last few weeks we've all been doing our best to social distance.  Many quilter have taken this time to make masks or catch up on UFO's.  I've watched the social media change in ways I never even imagined.  Some changes have been good and others not so good.  Of course the not so good is always opinion oriented.  I tend to ignore and block those who cause too much fluff.

The post I like the best are of course pretty pictures of quilts.  Second on the like list is quilters looking for patterns.  For one ...
